PSYCHOTHERAPY,
HYPNOTHERAPY, SUPERVISOR & TRAINING CONSULTANT IN NORTH LONDON
ABOUT SUSAN
Susan focuses her work on how we choose to use ourselves in the world.
How we use our responses, feelings and images to continually reshape
the way we use ourselves in relationships and different stages of our
life. To explore our life patterns of self use and reveal our bodily
existence.
She works in her own way focussing on the formative
approach, combining psychotherapy with hypnotherapy
and has found this to be an extremely effective way of working with her
clients. No single approach can encompass all the needs of an
individual and so she uses a wide range of techniques and diagnostic
models.
Susan has over twenty years experience in healing and
complementary medicine, having trained in massage, kinesiology and
spiritual healing. She worked in the voluntary sector for over ten
years as Finance Manager for a short-life housing organisation, was the
founder chair for the London Federation of Housing Co-operatives and
chair of Islington Community Housing Co-operative. She worked with
young homeless people and people in crisis. Her involvement with
community groups included training people both individually and in
groups. She has considerable experience as a trainer in business
and financial management.
Susan is a humanistic, integrative and formative psychotherapist
registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. For the
last seventeen years her training has been at Spectrum,
a centre for humanistic and integrative psychotherapy in north London. She has completed three year
courses in counselling and psychotherapy, the P.A.I.R.S programme
(practical application of relationship skills), working with couples
programme, is a participant of the on-going working with dreams
group, undertaken a variety of additional training modules at Spectrum
and is a participant of the on-going postgraduate course in
psychotherapy.
She is a graduate of the Spectrum training programme and was a
staff member there for five years. She was also a tutor on the Spectrum
Foundation Course in Counselling Skills until 2002. She is a Spectrum
recognised Supervisor. Susan served three years as a trustee and
officer of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy
(UKCP). She served on the Governing Board and the
Executive and Finance Committee as the Treasurer.
Susan brings compassion, solidity and humour to her work she
focuses particularly on somatic and formative process. She is a
certified clinical hypnotherapist having trained at the Hypnotism
Training Institute of Los Angeles in 1993 with Gil Boyne.
Her most recent training has been with Stanley Keleman, the
founder of formative psychology, who is the director of the Center
for Energetics in San Francisco California. In 1997/8 she completed two
training modules in Weggis, Switzerland, Dreams and the Biology of the
Divine and Dreams and the Body, led by Stanley, focussing on our dream life. Stanley says that dreams are the body
talking to itself about itself. Susan is passionate about working with
dreams and what we are in the process of forming.
For psychotherapy Susan sees people on an on-going
basis and structures time within terms. At the end of each term we
review our work and see whether we wish to continue a further term or
give ourselves time to end appropriately. The length of time we will be
working is decided together. Initially we meet once a week. Each
session lasts for about an hour. The current fee for psychotherapy
is £60 for individuals and £70 for couples per session.
For hypnotherapy Susan sees people on a short-term
basis. After the initial consultation we meet once a week for six
sessions when we review and decide together if further work is
appropriate. Each session lasts for about an hour. The current fee for hypnotherapy
is £80 a session.
Susan operates a sliding scale for those who are on a low income
or unemployed. Fees are reviewed on a yearly basis.
Susan works with adolescents and adults
individually, couples who want to work on their relationship
or parenting skills and groups.
Susan works with
whatever people bring to their session. However, she specialises
particularly, through training and personal life experience, in working
with dreams, fear and phobias, anger management, conflict, anxiety
and distress, depression, panic attacks, how
we use our
confidence, bereavement
especially by suicide, parenting skills, women with polycystic ovarian
syndrome and business and financial management.
